Carolina Raptor Center is dedicated to environmental stewardship and the conservation of birds of prey, through education, research, and the rehabilitation of injured and orphaned raptors.
Our environmental education programs reach approximately 40,000 students each year. Educators feel a responsibility to share their knowledge with our community in hopes that our enthusiasm will then be reflected in the faces in front of us.
Carolina Raptor Center supports environmental conservation and safeguards community health by treating injured and orphaned raptors. At the head of the food web, raptors are leading scientific indicators of a healthy environment.

Release-A-Raptor
There are few things more inspiring than watching a red-tailed hawk circle over an open field or hearing a wild owl hoot at dusk. Be a part of this magical experience by sponsoring the recovery of a raptor with Carolina Raptor Center’s new Release-a-Raptor Program. Choose from one of more than 700 birds who are brought to our rehabilitation center each year to receive care. Enjoy the thrill of watching a rehabilitated raptor return to the wild.
Pricing depends on the type of bird released and starts at $150. These donations help cover the medical cost and rehabilitation of the injured and orphaned raptor. Birds become available as they finish recovering in our rehabilitation center so there is no guarantees that a particular species of bird will be available on one particular day. If you have a definite date in mind, it is best to remain flexible on the species, and that you allow us to choose a recovered raptor suitable for your location. If you are flexible on the date, we can accommodate special request for certain species, and notify you as one becomes available.
Raptor releases are perfect for school events, birthdays, graduation parties, weddings, anniversaries, memorial services, a business grand opening, and other celebrations. As a Release-a-Raptor sponsor, a trained member of the release team will release your bird and you will receive a certificate and information about the bird. For more information or to schedule a release, contact Joy Braunstein at 704.875.6521, ext. 103.
